Rodeo as a varsity sport at Odessa College has established a successful history over the past 25 years. The Odessa College Wrangler men's teams have won 14 regional event titles, two regional team championships, 12 national event titles and one national team championship. The Odessa College women's team is in its 24th year. The Wrangler Rodeo team has qualified at least one athlete to the College National Finals 22 of the past 23 years. This year should be no exception.
Jim Watkins is in his 25th year of coaching OC's rodeo student-athletes. He also serves as director of the OC Rodeo and Agriculture Graham Center. Watkins earned his bachelor's degree in 1968 from Sul Ross University, where he competed for the Sul Ross rodeo team for four years. Watkins also rodeoed professionally from 1964-1982, competing in bull riding. He is now a life member of the PRCA. He is married to Katherine (K.C.). The Watkins' have three grown (married) children and four grandchildren.
