SEASON OUTLOOK

If the Wranglers can get healthy and stay that way, this will be a team that can compete for a national championship. I know that is a bold statement but the talent is there to make a serious run. The freshman are beginning to understand what it means to work hard and be on the same page, as well as understanding the coaching staff and what we expect.

his team has already shown that they are very supportive of one another and are starting to come together as a team. We have great sophomore leadership and our pitching staff could be one of the best in the nation. The outlook for this team is grand!

SOPHOMORES
Marissa Araujo Indio High School Indio, California
Marissa comes in as a returning All-Conference, All-Region, and a TJCCA All-Star. She was one of the top hitter’s on the team last season and consistently held down the clean-up spot in the line-up for the Wranglers. She is an incredible second baseman and has the ability to give the Wranglers some solid innings in the circle. The coaching staff has huge expectations for her this year.

Shanna Dees Odessa High School Odessa, Texas
Shanna is one of our top returning pitchers and hitters. As a left handed hitter she was able to supply the Wranglers with some pop from the left side and her glove at first has turned into a real weapon for the team. On top of this, Shanna was able to chalk up 15 wins last season with under a 2.0 ERA. She will be important to the success of our pitching staff again this year.

Noelle Garcia Rowlett High School Rowlett, Texas
Noelle is the epitomy of the gentle giant. At 6’ tall she is an intimidating force when she steps into the batter’s box, and when she connects, LOOK OUT! She is our top power hitter and has come in this fall stronger, faster, and leaner. She is one of our top outfielder’s and you will see her bat in the line-up everyday. An All-American year is not out of the question for Noelle but like the other sophomores, she just wants to win!

Maritza Rocha  Downey High School Downey, California
Maritza is our top returning pitcher and finished last season in the top 10 nationally in strike-outs per innings pitched. She spent the summer playing travel ball where she won the 18-A national championship; a feat she is determined in doing this year at Odessa College. She is an incredible first basemen, when needed, and has the best outfield instincts of anyone on our team. Coupled with Dees and Araujo, the Wrangler pitching staff should be one of the best in the Region when healthy.

FRESHMEN
Amanda Baldanado Righetti High School Santa Maria, California
Amanda comes in as one of our top recruits. A third baseman by trade, Amanda will hold down the short-stop duties for the Wranglers when needed. Amanda has a great arm, quick hands and instincts to boot. Her offensive prowess makes her one of the more dangerous weapons we will have this season. At 5’4”, she packs a powerful punch at the plate and will only be second to Garcia in the power category.

Alisha Carrasco Odessa Permian High School Odessa, Texas
“Skinny” is one of the best defensive players the program has had in a while. She has speed, great hands, no fear, and plays with reckless abandon. This is a year that we can honestly say the 2 best second basemen in the region are here at Odessa College. Skinny’s versatility will allow her to play in the outfield, and short-stop when needed. With good arm strength and speed, it will be hard to keep her out of the line-up.

Hannah Dodson Alpine High School Alpine, Texas
Hannah was Ms. Everything in the Alpine softball world and has the potential to be as good at Odessa College. She is strong! One might say “country girl” strong. As a pitcher she comes in to a situation to be a valuable counter punch to our two hard throwing lefties. Hannah will continue to learn and get reps in the outfield, and her talent and drive will allow her to become very talented out there as well.

Erin Fudge Royse City High School Caddo Mills, Texas
Erin is an incredible athlete with speed, strength and drive. She was All-State in high school as a pitcher, but her strength for the Wranglers lies in her offensive abilities. She has moved to the outfield for the Wranglers and will compete for the centerfield position with the ability to play anywhere on the field.

Noel Garcia West Mesa High School Albuquerque, NM
Noel has experienced winning and we hope that knowledge of what it takes to win will spread to all those she is around. Coming from one of the top schools in New Mexico for softball, Noel will bring her lead-off hitting skills to the Wranglers in an effort to replace All-American Breana Casaus, another New Mexico native. Noel will compete for the centerfield position and will be in the outfield somewhere. She is a great kid who will laugh at anything. We expect great things from her the next two years.

Mercedes Hitson West Mesa High School Albuquerque, NM
Mercedes also comes from West Mesa and knows what it takes to win. She is a 5’9”, athletically strong kid who has the potential to develop and step into Big Noey’s spot over the next year. She is a little crazy, loves to go off-roading and things of that nature, but she brings a breath of fresh air to the field everyday. The sky is the limit for Mercedes!

LeighAnna Krueger Seaman High School Topeka, Kansas
Kruger is every coach’s dream. Athletic build, works hard, knows the game, will do everything you ask, and to top it off, she’s very talented. Though she can play numerous positions, the Wranglers look for her to compete for the starting leftfield job and would like to see her bat in the five, six, seven hole. Aside from all her talent and physical gifts, Krug lives with Insulin dependant diabetes. She is a great student and knows what she wants out of her college years. She is indeed a great kid.

Taylor Miley Farmington High School Farmington, NM
Taylor comes to fill the shoes left vacant by her Farmington predecessor Addy Lucero from the two National tournament team of 2005 and 2006. She is a first baseman but has the ability to play either corner position. Taylor has a strong bat and led her high school team in homeruns and all power categories. In the tradition of the Farmington connection, Taylor knows the game. She knows where to be, what’s needed, and how to get it done. She will be a huge asset for the Wranglers this season.

Dominique Salazar Smithson Valley High School    San Antonio, Texas
Dom comes in as our last signee of the summer, but what a find she was. When her plans to go to Tarleton State were derailed by a test score, Coach B swooped in for the save. Dom is our catcher and has turned into a leader on the field already. She knows the game and loves to take charge on the field. Defensively Dominique is very solid and has the potential to be a very solid hitter for the Wranglers as well. She handles the pitching staff well and will be a very important part of our success this year.

LaTara Shockley Sandia High School Albuquerque, NM
Tara is our fastest athlete this year. She is strong, quick, and fast. She will start the transition from being a right-handed power hitter to a left-handed slapper. If the transition goes as planned, she will be at the top of the stolen base column like previous New Mexico native Breana Casaus. She will play first base and outfield for the Wranglers with her speed making her a strong candidate to become a mainstay in the outfield. She truly holds the reigns to her own limits.

Louisa Stover Hanks High School El Paso, Texas
Stover was considered the best high school softball player in El Paso. She is a strong hitter and can play both catcher and third. She will see time at both positions over this fall and time will tell where she ends up. Her bat, however, will be hard to keep out of the line-up. After leading all El Paso in homeruns her senior year, she will now try to take her power game to the next level. Stover is one of the hardest workers on the field everyday!

Amanda Tinkley Little Flower Academy Richmond, BC, Canada
Amanda comes to us all the way from Canada. She is an incredible student and loves to work hard at everything she does. If you see her awake, she’s working hard. She will see time at catcher and at 3rd and we are expecting to have a hard time keeping her bat out of the line-up. Tink is quick to make adjustments and has done a great job doing so thus far. She works well with the pitchers and will have a positive impact on this team.
