J.R. Torrez is the new Assistant Athletic Director/Cross Country Coach/Sports Information Director.  Much like coach Baten, he is not knew to the Odessa area.  Torrez grew up in Crane, TX.  Torrez attended Midland College before transferring to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, to play tennis.  Torrez taught tennis as a teaching pro in Midland, TX, and Albuquerque, NM after completing his undergraduate work at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  Torrez has worked as a personal trainer and was a member of the men’s basketball coaching staff at Midland College for 3 years.  Torrez is currently working on his Master’s degree in Kinesiology at U.T.P.B.
