Former Wrangler Daniss Jenkins Signs 2 Year NBA Contract
Former Odessa College Wrangler Daniss Jenkins has earned an NBA contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Detroit signed the former OC All-American on Monday, after he played 42 games this season on a two-way contract. An NBA two-way contract allows a player to split time between an NBA team and its G League affiliate.
Jenkins is averaging eight points and three assists as a key player for the NBA Eastern Conference leading Pistons. In seven starts this season, Jenkins has averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds per start.
The 6'4 Dallas, TX native played for Odessa College during the 2021-22 season. The Wranglers finished 28-7 and played in the elite 8 of the NJCAA National Tournament During his one season in Odessa. Daniss was a first team NJCAA All-American and the WJCAC Player of the Year in 2022, averaging 15.8 points, 5.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game for Odessa College.
Jenkins will receive a two-year, $8 million dollar contract which converts him from a two-way player to a full-time NBA participant for the next two years. NBA reports indicate his salary will represent the largest single season sum a two-way player has ever received on a conversion contract.
Daniss played collegiately at Odessa College, Iona College and finished at St. Johns University before signing with the Pistons as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
When asked about Daniss Jenkins, Wrangler Coach Kris Baumann stated, "Daniss's basketball journey is no surprise to anyone at Odessa College. He has earned this opportunity with his tremendous work ethic and humility. Daniss was a joy to coach and he has these traits because of his mother Portia, who did a wonderful job of raising Daniss Jenkins."
Congratulations to Daniss Jenkins from the entire Odessa College Wrangler family.
