The Odessa College softball team christened its new playing surface at the Wrangler Softball Complex by defeating Garden City Community College and No. 2-ranked McLennan Community College Friday at home.
Playing on their new artificial turf, the Lady Wranglers posted a 5-3 win against the Lady Broncbusters before closing out with a late 3-2 win against the Lady Highlanders.
"It's one of those things where we weren't getting things going in the first game," Odessa College head coach Doug Eastman said. "We started off cold but we had good defense and they gave us a chance to win and our pitchers did a good job in both games."
Odessa College improved to 5-2 for the season.
A pregame ceremony took place to celebrate the new field at the Wrangler Softball Complex before the Lady Wranglers' game against Garden City Community College.
"It's a beautiful facility and anyone here can look around and say 'I wouldn't mind playing here'," Eastman said. "We love it. we're grateful for the institution for giving us this facility to play at and it's not a bad place to meet every day for practice."
