Softball defeats Wallace State 6-2 in First Round of World Series
YUMA, AZ - The Wrangler Softball Team defeated Wallace State Hanceville 6-2 in the first round of the 2025 D1 Softball World Series on Monday night.
Haydn Milley picked up the win in the circle for the Odessa. Milley through a complete game allowing two runs on five hits, striking out nine lion hitters.
Odessa opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Mackenzei Mahagan-Bernal that scored Jaycie Pacheco.
Wallace State answered and took the lead in the top of fourth on a two out, two RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Wrangler bats exploded in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Diveli Cherry and a walk from Jaycie Pacheco put two on for Mason Barclay who launched a three run homerun over the centerfield wall that gave the Wranglers a 4-2 lead. The lead extend when Shelby Navarrete hit a solo homerun to right center to extend the lead to 5-2 in favor of the Wranglers.
Odessa would add an insurance run in the sixth and Milley retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
The Wranglers now advance to Wednesday afternoons winners bracket where the will face the winner of #3 Northwest Florida and #13 Southern Union State.
